Your provider

Bryant Parson

Two board certifications, one view of you.

FNP-BC

Board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner

PMHNP-BC

Board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

My dual training means I can address your mental health needs while keeping your physical health in view, a perspective that’s rare and, I believe, essential.

I take a science-based approach to care while recognizing the art of tailoring treatment plans to each individual. No two people experience mental health the same way, and no two treatment plans should be identical.

  • Practicing since 2018
  • Licensed in Virginia and Florida
  • Prescribes controlled substances when clinically appropriate

Our approach

Medication is a tool, not a destination.

On medication

I believe in the medical model. I believe medications work. That doesn’t mean they’re right for everyone, and where possible, the goal should be for you to live your life without long-term dependence on them.

On therapy

Psychiatry without therapy is rarely enough. I advocate for a collaborative care model, working alongside therapists, primary care providers, and other members of your care team. If you don’t have a therapist, I’ll help you find one.

On the whole person

Sleep, movement, nutrition, relationships, meaning: these aren’t soft add-ons to a treatment plan. They’re foundational. Every conversation we have will take these into account.

What we believe

The principles behind every visit

Psychiatry that goes deeper: collaborative care, evidence-based treatment and lifestyle medicine, working together.

Evidence-based
Treatment grounded in research and clinical science, not trends, not guesswork. You deserve care that works.
Collaborative
Your care team should work together. I actively coordinate with therapists, PCPs, and specialists to close the gaps.
Whole-person
Mind and body aren’t separate. Your physical health, lifestyle, and environment all shape your mental wellbeing.
Goal-oriented
We’re working toward something, not just managing symptoms indefinitely. What does thriving look like for you?
Honest
I’ll tell you what I think and why. You’ll always know what we’re doing, what the evidence says, and what the alternatives are.
Respecting your time
Flexible visit lengths, telehealth availability, and straightforward scheduling, because your time matters.

How it works

What to expect when you work with me

  1. A thorough first visit

We take the time to understand your full history: psychiatric, medical, and personal. Good care starts with really listening.

  2. A plan that’s yours

No template treatment plans. We build something together that fits your life, your goals, and your values.

  3. Ongoing collaboration

Follow-up visits are structured around what you actually need, whether that’s a quick check-in or a longer conversation.

  4. Progress toward independence

The goal isn’t to keep you in care indefinitely. We’re always asking: what would it look like for you to need us less?

    Questions

    What new patients ask us

How long does the intake process take?

Most new patients are seen within 1–2 weeks, depending on insurance verification and availability.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your first visit is a full psychiatric evaluation. We’ll review your history, discuss your goals, and begin building a care plan together. Plan for 60 minutes.

    Do you prescribe controlled substances?

Yes, when clinically appropriate. All prescribing decisions are made thoughtfully with your full history in mind.

    Do you offer therapy?

Our visits incorporate therapeutic conversation, but we are a psychiatric practice, not a therapy practice. We can help connect you with a therapist if needed.

What if I don’t have insurance?

Self-pay patients are welcome. Contact us for current rates before getting started.

Can I do everything by telehealth?

Telehealth is available for most visit types throughout Virginia. Some situations may require an in-person visit; we’ll let you know if that applies.

What if I need to cancel or I’m running late?

Please give us 24 hours’ notice to cancel or change a visit. If you’re running late, we hold your time for 10 minutes.

Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but, importantly, you are not the rain.
