Improving Collaboration in Mental Health Care

One of the biggest gaps in mental health care today is the disconnect between therapy and medication management. Too often, patients see a therapist who recommends medication, only to be referred out to a prescriber—sometimes waiting weeks or months for an appointment. This delay can cause frustration, treatment dropout, or even push patients to seek care elsewhere, sometimes in less ideal settings.

I recognize the need for better collaboration between providers and believe therapy offices should have the ability to offer medication management without unnecessary barriers. When therapists and prescribers work together in a unified approach, patients receive more seamless, effective care. The goal isn’t just prescribing—it’s ensuring that medication, when needed, is part of a comprehensive treatment plan that supports long-term well-being.

By integrating medication management within therapy practices, we can create a system where patients don’t have to choose between therapy and medication—they get both, in a setting that prioritizes their continuity of care.
